To me cooking is a ministry on its own. Ministering to people is not only preaching, I minister to people through the healthful cooking work.
Four years ago, when I started this work, I had no idea that it would grow and become such a blessing to many. Many people have been blessed through this work and I praise God for this.
Though I am a health educator, I love to focus more on teaching people how to cook healthfully in order to avoid diseases in the family because of unhealthy ways of cooking.
What I have notice is that when people decide to become vegans or vegetarians there is always a challenge of what to eat and how to prepare the food . Some focus on refined products and unhealthy way of cooking such as deep frying, overcooking or adding artificial, and hot spices to their food just to get the taste of meat which is impossible. We don’t eat for taste but health. It is good to ask yourself a question before eating, “though this food taste nice, is it healthy?” Research is now showing out that the spreading of diseases is not so much the result of bad genes. But rather bad practices in the kitchen. Most of us cook the way our mothers cooked, so we eat the way they ate and we consequently experience the same diseases that they experienced. (see Campbell, 2006; Malkmus, 1995).
Sometimes, in the process of cooking for taste, we give up health. The food can still be cooked in a simple tasty and healthy way, but this requires wisdom from God. Our appetite should be under the control of the reason. Plant-based diet is such a wonderful diet to follow but one needs to learn how to cook or prepare these foods properly in order to obtain all the nutrients which the body needs. Many people prefer to blame sickness on something off the plate, because they don’t want to hear that their favorite meal is the cause of their sickness. This diet does not only prevent diseases, but it also reverses them.
My husband, who is also a qualified health scientist, focuses more on teaching health, and about different kind of diseases which arises because of eating animal products, so we work together hand in hand all to the glory of God.
Throughout the years, I have been in various of homes, where I conducted cooking lessons and many households have been blessed by this work. I spend most of my time cooking and educating people on how to cook healthy simple and delicious vegan meals. To cook and bake without meat, eggs, cheese, dairies , refined sugar, refined grains etc., It is very wonderful and I enjoy doing this work very much, but it requires wisdom from God.
Cooking is the most important work any woman can engage in, most woman looks down upon this work. They think it is the work of a slave, but in fact it is the most important work that God looks upon with interest. God is very concerned about what we cook in our kitchens and how we cook it. He places high esteem on those who faithfully engage in cooking. Therefore, I encourage men and women to take this work serious.
Most diseases start in the kitchen. As mothers, the health of the whole family depends largely upon us. How you cook the food, the spices you put in it, the ingredients you use can affect the health of the family. If food is deep fried with too much oil, or overcooked with hot and harmful ingredients it can be very dangerous to the health of the family. So, to me it is not just about giving someone a recipe for them to cook but it is also about teaching them how to cook it in a healthy and palatable way so it can be enjoyed by the family.

I strongly believe that eating healthy doesn’t have to be bland or boring or complicated. In fact, it is just the opposite. There is this pervasive myth that a plant-based diet is expensive, but I disagree. You don’t have to buy plant-based food in the supermarkets always. If you go to your local markets you will even save money. Meat is expensive and it’s not only costly in term of money but in term of health too.
When I became a vegan, I understood that cutting meat out of my diet was good for my health. Meat was never the food God gave humans. Today many animals are sick and eating meat is not safe.
For me being a vegan is not about removing but it is about adding. I do not worry about things that I’m cutting off from my diet because there are many other things to add like fruits, veggies, nuts, tubers, seeds, cereals etc. In fact, this is exactly the diet God gave to Adam and Eve. Genesis 1:29
I do not focus on what I’m losing, but instead I focus on what I’m gaining. Gaining improves health; gaining the peace of mind that the life of animals doesn’t have to be taken for me to enjoy my meals.
I encourage you to give this diet a try. It is the best diet ever and my recipes are very simple. Eating plant foods alone can heal a lot of diseases which are troubling people out there.
Though I have been to different kitchens, and this work has touched people through social media, but they are still those I cannot reach, especially those in the villages, in the nearby countries who are not so fortunate to have data bundled to go check recipes online or those who do not have means to pay for my transport and ingredients of different meals that I must teach them.
